About Mikumi

An Mikumi Primer

Everything worth knowing before you visit.

Mikumi is Tanzania's fourth-largest national park and its most accessible — a five-hour drive from Dar es Salaam makes it a practical weekend safari for people based on the coast.

It's also underrated: the Mkata Floodplain supports excellent lion, buffalo, and elephant concentrations, and yellow baboons are everywhere.

"Drove down from Dar for the weekend. Saw lions on the road before we'd even reached camp. A brilliant and affordable introduction to Tanzanian safari."
